The BVU and Council Elections.
Hi, thanks for the email and good wishes.
TBH I don't really want the endorsement of any organisation associated with UNITE. The scandal (ongoing) surrounding the hotel and conference centre fiasco suggests deep seated incompetence and corruption. Why would you wish to be associated with an organisation like this ?
Then there's this;
'Unite believes that any worker has the right to determine their gender identity without unnecessary medicalisation, and supports the review of the process of applying for gender recognition process/certificate. All Unite members who identify as women and meet the rule six qualifications of being a union workplace representative in employment are welcome to participate in the women’s structure of Unite. Unite recognises that sex discrimination at work arises from deeply ingrained patriarchal and systemic oppression of women.'
Let men 'identify' as women (nothing required, no unnecessary medicalisation) then access women's spaces, compete in women's sports and presumably, enter all-women shortlists for Union jobs - while at the same time attacking 'patriarchal oppression.' I presume you're intelligent enough to see the massive contradiction not to say rank hypocrisy in this statement.
You might be comfortable with this but I'm not, and I very much doubt whether the the great majority of women are either. So thanks but no thanks, I don't really want the support of the BVU.
Best wishes,
